Afternoon Program and Enrichment Classes

Week of December 14, 2020
In the afternoon classes, the children will practice visual and listening skills and participate in rhythm games. The class will sew mittens and they will create Christmas crafts during enrichment class. The children will practice wishing “Merry Christmas” and “Happy Birthday” to Baby Jesus in Spanish. They will also participate in a preschool workout activity.
In Music and Movement class, we will play musical hoops. In map skills, will make a map of Santa’s Journey. In our December Music Class we will play name that tune.
Week of December 7, 2020
In the afternoon classes, the children will play charades, pantomime Christmas songs and play a group game. The class will match things they like and things they need. The children will make a special Christmas craft during enrichment class. They will review color words and numbers 1-10 in Spanish and celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe by making a special stick puppet. They will also participate in a preschool workout activity.
In Music and Movement class, we will play a Christmas Music Movement Game. In map skills, we will find Pennsylvania on the map and play a game of tossing inside snowballs. In our December Music Class we will listen to new and some familiar holidays songs and hear a story about traveling to see Grandma and Grandpa while staying safe during Covid-19.
Week of November 30, 2020
In the afternoon classes, the children will practice listening and participating in a Santa activity. During theater games, they will retell the story of The Three Little Kittens. The class will find out what happens in a busy bakery. The children will make a special Christmas craft during enrichment class. They will practice color words and numbers 1-10 in Spanish. They will also participate in a workout activity.
In Music and Movement class, we will play a Christmas Music Movement Game. In map skills, we will make a map of our community. And for our December Music Class we will listen to new and some familiar holidays songs.
Week of November 23, 2020
On Tuesday afternoon the children will celebrate Thanksgiving by participating in a “Turkey Stroll” large motor activity and play a Thanksgiving Bingo game. On Wednesday afternoon, the class will understand that Advent is a time of waiting and getting ready. They will be introduced to the song, “This Little Light of Mine”.
In Music and Movement class, we will sing and move to ‘The Pilgrims on the Mayflower’, “Playing the Drums” and “Where’s the Turkey”. In map skills, we will see where the “North Pole” is and read a story about one of Santa’s helpers and how he travels.
Week of November 16, 2020
In the afternoon classes, the children will practice J words, participate in theater games, share what they are thankful for, experience caring actions through a famous fable, learn about the phases of the moon during Science enrichment, practice numbers 1-10 in Spanish, and participate in a workout activity.
In Music and Movement class, we learned a Turkey Poem, colored a hand puppet and played Turkey Count to 10. In map skills, we reviewed the cardinal directions, read “Me on the Map” and made a map of our home. And finally in our sewing and weaving class, we are learning to sew yarn on burlap.
Week of November 9, 2020
The afternoon class will learn about Native American Indian symbols, act like an Indian bunny, and learn a finger play/song. The class will show what they know about a veteran and play a Veteran’s Day matching game. They will share experiences of being thankful. During science enrichment, the children will mix various liquids and solids together to make something new, including edible slime. They will review and practice Spanish color words and parts of the body, participate in a preschool workout activity, and practice cutting and gluing.
In Music and Movement class, the children are learning rhythms and chants about Thanksgiving using hand motions. This week the children will learn how to use a compass, what the cardinal directions are and listen to a story about map making from Henry, the Pig. The children will learn basic “sewing skills” using yarn and paper plates to make a dream catcher.
Week of November 2, 2020
The afternoon class will use their “hands” during theater games. They will have fun with language arts, the life of a pumpkin in science, and work out activities. They will practice Spanish color words and parts of the body.
This week the children will vote for president and learn what a president does, play musical chairs and learn patterns with rhythm sticks, learn how to make a map of their classroom and they will work on their small motor skills by making a bracelet with beads and learning paper weaving skills.
Week of October 26, 2020
The afternoon class will have fun with Halloween theater games, language arts activities, cooking, cutting, gluing and exercising. They will practice Spanish color words, greeting words and family names.
The children are developing their letter and number skills, matching and small motor skills on the computer. They are learning about voting, following directions and moving to Halloween music.
Week of October 19, 2020
The afternoon class continues having fun with theater games, language arts activities, cooking, cutting, gluing, exercising, new Spanish color words and greetings
The children are learning the names used for parts of a computer: keyboard, mouse pad, mouse and the monitor in computer class, and how to move the mouse. They are learning about Pennsylvania and important things that it is known for. They are also learning how to follow the rhythms to music using rhythm sticks, skipping, walking, hopping, jumping and galloping.
Week of October 12, 2020
The afternoon class continues having fun with theater games, language arts activities, cooking, cutting, gluing, exercising, and Spanish color words.
The children are also learning letter and number skills in computer class, and how to use the mouse and the keyboard. In addition, they typed their names on a typewriter for the first time, they are learning the names of the state and town they live in and they are learning about different rhythm patterns while moving and listening to music.
Enrichment Activities Include
