Week of December 14, 2020
The class will practice “M” sound. The letter M will be reinforced as the children find marshmallow pictures to put in a mug of hot chocolate. They will continue to practice patterns, marble paint ornaments and practice writing number 9. The children will have fun playing outside and in the bike room, playing rhythm bells. The class will begin to get ready for the new season of winter.
This week the children will continue to get ready for Jesus’ birthday by celebrating the fourth Sunday in Advent. In the Gospel story, they will review the Christmas story and recognize that Jesus was part of a family, The Holy Family. They will also learn how nature gets ready for the new season.
Week of December 7, 2020
The class will practice “L” sound and name things that begin with the letter. The letter will be reinforced as the children create a lion fold out book and Christmas lights. They will complete gingerbread and candle patterns, count ornaments and practice writing number 8. The children will also have fun painting and stamping Christmas decorations and gifts. In the magazine activity, the class will discover things they need and things they want. They will also continue practicing Christmas carols with rhythm bells.
This week the children will continue to get ready for Jesus’ birthday by celebrating the third Sunday in Advent. In the Gospel story, they will learn that loving actions and kindness help them prepare for Christmas. They will celebrate special feast days for Mary, St. Lucia, and Our Lady of Guadalupe. The class will also listen to the story, The Legend of the Poinsettia.
Week of November 30, 2020
The class will practice “K” sound and name things that begin with the letter. The letter will be reinforced as the children create a kite and a koala. They will put Kris Kringle pictures in order, match colors and shapes and practice writing number 7. The children will also have fun creating Christmas decorations and gifts.
This week the children will listen to Old Testament stories about King Solomon. In the Gospel story, they will learn how John the Baptist prepared people for Jesus. They will listen to the story of St. Nicholas and continue to get ready for Jesus’ birthday by celebrating the second Sunday in Advent.
Week of November 23, 2020
This week the children will participate in a special Thanksgiving prayer service and enjoy a “feast” with classmates. They will be introduced to the season of Advent and make an Advent wreath and understand that it is a time to prepare for Jesus’ birthday. They will practice writing the numbers 5,6,7,8 and write letters Bb and Cc.
Week of November 16, 2020
The class will practice “Jj” sound and name things that begin with the letter. They will create a jacket, jeans, and a jellyfish. The children will review the Thanksgiving story, listen to a poem about a turkey, and learn about the meaning of the colors of Indian corn. They will practice graphing, review the numbers up to 5, and practice the new number 6.
This week the children will listen to the Old Testament stories of Nehemiah and Naaman. In the Gospel story, they will identify the caring actions they do and they will recognize that Jesus want us to share with others.
Week of November 9, 2020
The class will practice “Ii” sounds, and they will include insect identification. They will create a colorful Native American Indian headband. The children will share what it feels like to be thankful for things they love; they will practice beginning sounds. The class will create a heartfelt turkey card. They will complete a pattern and a graph.
This week the children will listen to the Old Testament stories of Moses and the 10 Commandments and Miriam and her music. They will review the story of why the Pilgrims left England, how they survived the first cold winter, and how they met the Native American Indians who helped them find and plant food. The children will remember how the Pilgrims thanked God for all they had.
Week of November 2, 2020
The class will practice the “Hh” sounds. They will create a turkey that asks everybody to “Eat Ham”. They will find out how brave veterans were. The children will cut and assemble Thanksgiving puzzles and identify the number 5.
This week the children will listen to the Old Testament stories of the queen of Sheeba and Elisha. They will find out why the Pilgrims left England. In the Gospel story the children will learn that we want to be ready for God all the time.
Week of October 26, 2020
The class will practice the “Gg” sounds. They will cut spiral ghosts, create a goat’s garden, paint and stuff a gourd. The children will identify the number 4 and practice matching pictures, numbers and letters.
This week the children will listen to the Old Testament story of David and the Giant. They will review the Golden Rule and the how God gives them the ability to grow and develop. In the Gospel story the children will recognize that Jesus promises happiness to everyone. They will identify saints as God’s friends and angels as God’s messengers.
Week of October 19, 2020
The class will practice “Ff” sounds. They will make Frankenstein and Five Little Pumpkins Halloween crafts, and will participate in frog and fish activities. The children will count, paint with sponges and their fingers, and they will put pictures in order. They will learn about the parts of a pumpkin and complete a seek and find magazine activity.
The Old Testament story tells how Joseph forgave his brothers and how they felt when they reunited as a family. The Gospel story teaches the children that Jesus has two rules and they will recognize Jesus’ Great Commandment
Week of October 12, 2020
The class will practice the “Ee” sounds. They will make elephant and egg crafts, as well as Fall and Halloween decorations. The children will discover how mixing two colors will make a new color. They will practice new descriptive words and number ordering.
This week the children will learn how God made each of them special. They will listen to the Old Testament stories of Jacob’s dream and Joseph’s colorful coat. The Gospel story this week teaches us to praise God.
Week of October 5, 2020
This week the children are celebrating Fire Prevention Week. They will enjoy a drive by firetruck visit on Tuesday, and the children will be practicing fire safety with a school fire drill, as well as” stop, drop, and roll” and “stay low and go” practice. They will also create an edible firetruck during cooking class.
The class will practice the “Dd” sound and will make a Dalmatian dog craft. They will practice finding the letter D, put pictures in order, and color by number.
Our Bible Story is about David, the Shepherd boy. The Seeds gospel story teaches the children that Jesus liked to tell stories to his friends. They will recognize that Jesus invites us to God’s celebration each Sunday at church.
Week of September 28, 2020
The children are enjoying getting to know their new friends and classmates. They are having fun playing in the playground and in the bike room on rainy days. This week the children are learning about the letter C and the hard and soft sounds it makes. We are thanking community helpers in the Let’s Find Out magazine. They are also counting, cutting and gluing. During our first full days of school, the children will enjoy cooking and Spanish class.
This week the children will listen to the story of God’s Creation. They will welcome October, the month of Mary, and they will pray the Hail Mary prayer in her honor. The children will also learn about St. Francis and his love for all God’s creatures.
Week of September 21, 2020
This week the children are enjoying playing outside with their new friends. They are printing and sounding words beginning with B. They are also counting, drawing, painting and participating in Share and Tell. The children will also celebrate the new season of Fall.
Bible stories this week include Noah’s Ark and Baby Moses. The children recognize that God gives us feelings, and they can show how they feel by the looks on their faces.
Week of September 14, 2020
The children are happy to be in school and meeting new classmates! During this first full week of school we are enjoying the playground and the beautiful weather.
This is Letter A week and the children will participate in counting, painting and puzzle activities, Share and Tell, and writing practice. They will find out where apples grow, fun ways to eat them, and how to count and graph them.
Our Old Testament bible stories this week include Adam and Eve, Creation, Noah’s Ark, and Lot and Abraham. We will continue to greet each other with the Good Day prayer and they will ask God to watch over and protect them as they pray Angel of God.
Week of September 9, 2020
As we begin our new school year (either in person, on Zoom, or both) the children are meeting new classmates, learning new names, and following new school rules and directions. They reviewed shapes and colors, and they practiced writing top to bottom, left to right, slant, and forward and backward circles.
The children celebrated Mary, Jesus’ Mother’s birthday. They are learning to take turns and be kind to one another. They are also discovering that God loves them and that each one of them is special.
We had a fire drill practice and visited St. Thomas of Villanova Chapel.
